Writing Skills

How we write matters because it’s a public activity. Others make judgements on what we write and the way that it is written. 

  • Is it clear?
  • Is it grammatically correct?
  • Is it well structured and coherent?
  • Is it spelt and punctuated accurately?
  • Being sure of all of these things will give us confidence when we write. If you want this confidence read on.

Course Aims

  • Know and use the correct conventions in writing
  • Plan and structure information for formal writing

Course Content

We cover the following topics:

  • Recognising and correcting common grammatical errors
  • Parts of speech
  • Subject verb agreement
  • Using capitals
  • Sentence construction
  • Punctuation - commas, full stops, colons and semicolons
  • When and how to use apostrophes
  • Structuring letters and reports
  • Active and passive writing
  • Common spelling problems

Course Structure

Our teaching methods include lots of examples and exercises to try yourself.

We always find out from participants which topics you would like to see covered.   This allows us to personalise our teaching to your needs which in turn helps make the training more useful in in your day to day job roles.
